What exactly is Kari?

Kari is an iPhone app for training social skills and charisma by talking out loud with an AI coach. It combines spoken lessons (one concrete technique you practice on the spot) with roleplays (real scenes where a character talks back), and every session ends with a report that tells you exactly what to improve.

Does practicing with an AI actually work?

The evidence says yes. A meta-analysis of 11 studies found simulated exposure practically identical to real exposure for public-speaking fear (d=−1.39 vs −1.41), and feedback-driven vocal training improved perceived charisma within hours (Pascal system, N=72, p<0.001). Kari's whole design is built on primary studies and meta-analyses — see the Science page.

Do I have to speak out loud?

Yes — that's the point. Kari really listens: she hears your filler words, silences, pace and sentence endings. That feedback about how you sound is only possible speaking, not typing. You practice alone and in private, so there's no embarrassment in failing.

What can I practice?

Over 160 roleplays (dating, work, negotiation, neighbor conflicts, family) and 45 lessons across 9 skills: social confidence, public speaking, dating and attraction, leadership presence, conflict and boundaries, charisma, storytelling, persuasion, and negotiation.

Is Kari like a therapy app?

No. Kari is an education and training tool for communication skills — a social gym. It is not a medical or psychological service and doesn't replace a mental-health professional.

What languages does Kari support?

Kari is available in 31 languages. You can train in whichever feels most natural.

How much does Kari cost?

Kari is subscription-based: a weekly plan and an annual plan, and you can top up conversation time with one-time minute packs. Exact pricing is shown in the App Store before you buy, and you can cancel anytime from your Apple account settings.

Does Kari record or judge me?

Kari analyzes your voice in real time to give you feedback, but audio is not stored and no human ever hears it. The goal is measuring behavior to help you improve — never judging you. Kari never scores you on “staying calm”. See the Privacy Policy for details.

What is an AI charisma coach?

An AI charisma coach is an app that trains how you come across in conversation — using artificial intelligence to talk with you, analyze your speech and give you feedback. Kari is a voice-based one: instead of typing to a chatbot, you speak out loud with AI characters, and Kari measures behaviors like filler words, pace, silences and follow-up questions to coach you between sessions.

How can I practice social skills alone?

The most effective way to practice alone is spoken roleplay with realistic feedback. Research shows simulated exposure works about as well as real exposure for public-speaking fear (11 RCTs, N=508), so practicing scenes out loud with a voice AI is legitimate training, not a toy. Kari gives you 160+ scenes — dates, interviews, conflicts — available 24/7, in private, with no social cost for failing.

How do I stop saying filler words?

First you need to hear them — most people genuinely don't. Kari counts your filler words one by one in every session and shows you exactly where they appeared. The fix it trains: replace the filler with a short silence (a pause reads as confidence; “um” reads as doubt), slow down 10%, and end sentences downward instead of trailing off. Most users start catching fillers mid-air within a couple of weeks.

Can charisma really be learned?

Yes — this is one of the better-established findings. Managers trained in concrete charisma tactics (stories, contrasts, three-part lists, rhetorical questions) were rated significantly more influential by their own teams (Antonakis et al., 2011). And vocal charisma improves within hours of feedback-driven practice: in the Pascal study (N=72), prosodic charisma scores jumped from 40 to 71 after 4 hours (p<0.001). Charisma behaves like a skill, not a gift.

How is Kari different from chat-based AI apps?

Three ways. You speak out loud, so Kari can coach the two thirds of charisma that live in your voice — pace, emphasis, pauses — which typing apps can't even see. The characters push back: they get bored by canned lines and only give in to technique, instead of agreeing like a generic assistant. And the feedback is measured behavior (filler words counted, silences timed, quotes cited), not encouragement.

Is Kari available in Spanish?

Yes. Kari was built in Spanish and English first, and the app's interface is available in 31 languages. The roleplay characters and the coach speak the language you train in. The Spanish version of this site is at karicoach.app/es, and the App Store listing in Spain and Latin America is “Kari - Coach de Carisma”.

How can I practice for a job interview out loud?

Rehearse the real questions with someone who reacts, then look at what you actually did. Kari's work and career scenes put you in front of Elena, an HR character who hides trap questions, and Marta, a recruiter who insists the offer is final. You answer out loud, and the report counts filler words, measures silences over four seconds and shows whether your sentences ended with confidence or trailed off. Twenty-seven interview and workplace scenes are listed on the Work and career page.

How do I get better at small talk?

Small talk is a skill with five trainable moves: opening, asking a follow-up question, sharing something of your own, a callback, and an exit. Kari's Social confidence skill has a spoken lesson for each, and research shows follow-up questions, the ones that dig into what the other person just said, are the single behavior that most predicts being liked (Huang et al., 2017). The report counts yours after every scene.

How long does it take to see results?

The vocal part responds fastest: in the Pascal study, prosodic charisma scores rose from 40 to 71 after four hours of feedback-driven practice. Kari sessions are five minutes, and most users notice filler words disappearing within a couple of weeks because they finally hear them counted. Kari does not promise outcomes; it measures behaviors, and those change with repetitions.

Is Kari a good alternative to CharmXP or Vocal Image?

It depends on what you want to train. Kari is the one built around live conversations with characters who resist and a report of counted behaviors, with dating, everyday conflict, persuasion, work and family as categories. CharmXP leans professional with gamified progression; Vocal Image centers voice drills and a daily plan. The Compare page lays the four options out side by side with facts from their App Store listings.
